Accessing the protected areas of our website
In the recent past, we've had blogs and forums that I've had to
remove thanks to spammers. Spammers trying to sell anything (and
everything) flood sites like this in a feeble attempt that you might
click one of their links to buy whatever they sell. Or, they're
trying to infect your computer with spyware to steal from you.
Therefore: Access to the forum and blog is restricted.
Access is given my ME only. Once you gain access, it is your
responsibility to keep access limited to yourself through your own
personal computer.
Our privacy is also paramount. I am also going to install
whatever scripts are necessary to block all access from corporation
computers. You might have a free moment and want to see the latest
on our site - but not from within the BC Ferries corporate network.
Once you access it from within that network - the company has
access to it. BC Ferries corporate intranet network has the absolute
right to view ANY page you view, so watch where you browse when
you're on a coffee break. WE will not allow the privacy to be
compromised by even allowing a company computer to open our site at
all.
You must do your part though. Your access, usernames and
passwords are to be protected by you and you cannot share them with
anyone.
Before you apply for access though, please understand that this
website is independent from BC Ferries corporate site (www.bcferries.com),
and our unions provincial site (www.bcfmwu.com).
This means that I cannot solve any access problems you might have
with those two sites, and your access information for those sites
will not work with ours.
There are several secure areas of our site. One is for shop
stewards and the local executive to access (and it is private even
from members due to the confidential nature of the information
available). The other parts are the forum and blog, those are
accessible to members (once approved) as they're for general usage.
I have installed a two-stage security gate. One: to gain access
to the secure areas of our site. Two: once inside, this is your
unique username and password to post and read from forums and blog
postings. You can self register in the blog and forum site.
To gain access, register here
and make sure to check off the 'please sign me up to gain
access to the forum and blog'
